This class provides an overview of ice/cold-water safety and rescue issues including ice characteristics (ice size-up), hypothermia, drowning, near drowning, self-rescue, victim/patient care, ice/cold-water rescue PPE and equipment, ice/cold-water rescue incident planning and response and ice/cold-water rescue techniques. It will also provide the basis of lecture material for the Ice/Cold-Water Rescue Operations course which is designed to simulate the strategy and tactics used during an ice/cold-water rescue incident. It meets the NFPA 1006 standard for Ice Rescue.
