The Officer Development – Leadership & Supervision course provides current and potential fire officers with a fundamental knowledge of the duties, responsibilities, and leadership required to be successful as a fire officer.
Additionally, this course covers the basic responsibilities of the fire officer as they relate to human resources management as well as common administrative functions.
This course is based upon the requirements found in Chapter 4 of NFPA 1021, Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications.
Course Length: 15 hours
Prerequisite: A minimum of 2 years of service following completion of Firefighter I or Basic Firefighter Training or Essentials of Firefighting or Basic Exterior Firefighting Operations with HMFRO, and Engine Company Operations or Ladder Company Operations, and authorization to attend from student’s department Chief.
This course is one of two modules from the Fire Officer I program which can be taken in any order: the Fireground Strategy and Tactics for First Arriving Companies module (15 hours), and the Leadership and Supervision module (15 hours). Upon completion of these two modules, an Introduction to Fire Officer certificate will be issued.
