Expired Speaker Series – Elevator Emergencies @ Sayville Fire Department

Elevators are no longer exclusive to commercial occupancies.  Throughout our response areas we are seeing more residential buildings being constructed with the inclusion of elevators.  This is especially true in those assisted and senior living communities which can be found in any one of our districts.  They have even been reported in private dwellings, both large and small.  As all hazard agencies, fire departments have been and will continue to be called to address emergencies involving occupants trapped in or around elevators.  During this lecture, an elevator professional will take us through the construction and inner workings of the types of elevators we may encounter, focusing on the safety of our emergency responders and those occupants who may be trapped.  Following this discussion, an instructor from the Suffolk County Fire Academy will outline strategy and tactics used to address these emergencies and bring them to a successful conclusion.
